[Press Release, 11-07-2024, The Hague] Absurd, beautiful, mysterious, cruel: Zino Schat's new universe has many faces. In his latest performance "Whispering a Prayer," the choreographer and artistic director of Fractal Collective, in collaboration with visual artist Daijiro Hama, creates a new world in which three dancers try to find their way. The performance is part of 'The choice of Korzo & Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT)'
The research that led to Whispering a Prayer began for Zino in Japan. 'I spent some time in Kyoto, a city among the mountains with a mystical atmosphere,' Zino says of it. 'We went into nature there to explore movement in relation to the environment. That's something that fascinates me, because as a street dancer I saw how an audience reaction affects movement.'
"Performances on the street bring people together. Together you forget time and share a moment where people of different nationalities spend time side by side and enjoy. I believe that art has a direct positive impact on people and want to make a positive change in my work. Especially now, in a world with great conflicts and growing individualism." - Zino Schat
In 'Whispering a Prayer,' Zino creates a new world with visual artist Daijiro Hama. A visually stunning world full of mysticism, absurdity, beauty and cruelty. A trio of dancers try to find their way in this new universe and engage in dialogue. They learn to listen and discover new ways to enter into conversation with each other.
'Whispering a Prayer' will have its world premiere at Korzo on Thursday, Sept. 12, and then tour various cities. The performance is produced by Korzo - where Zino is an artist-in-residence, Fractal Collective and NDT (Nederlands Dans Theater).

Since 2013, Korzo and Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) have joined forces to provide up-and-coming dance makers with optimal guidance and a suitable stage. Every year they choose a choreographer they support to create a new production and go on tour with it. Zino Schat has been chosen for 2024. Antonin Rioche, Astrid Boons, Iván Pérez, Amos Ben-Tal Samir, Calixto and Marina Mascarell preceded him.
A dynamic collaborative initiative led by artistic director Zino Schat. Together with assistant choreographer Barbara Minacori and business director Glenn Westphal, they are the driving force behind our non-profit dance theater organization. Zino Schat, a passionate choreographer, has created a unique dance language that seamlessly blends contemporary dance with influences from the world of Hip-hop.
